Firmware 5 for Xovis sensors

The new Firmware 5 lays the foundation for the future Xovis experience: It simplifies integration into your solutions, helps you save time and money, and provides an intuitive, error-proof workflow adaptable to a wide variety of use cases.

Xovis sensors running with Firmware 5 feature data output with extensive customization options, an API-driven configuration, and a redesigned WebUI. Furthermore, the new data push architecture prepares the PC-series sensors for use in cloud-based environments. 

 

Xovis sensor Firmware 5.1

PC2SE, PC2S, PC2R, PC2, PC3, PCT and even SPIDER are shipped from the factory with Firmware 5.1 already installed. Sensors with Firmware 3.x/4.x or SPIDER running IBEX are still available but will need to be ordered explicitly. A downgrade from 5.x to 3.x/4.x is not possible.

 

What does Firmware 5.1 offer?

Feature parity

Feature parity to Firmware 3.x/4.x has been achieved1. Recording Viewer (former Validation Viewer) available not only on sensors, but also as an executable program on a PC. Zone-exit event now includes zone dwell time – enabling push for dwell time. 

SPIDER with Firmware 5

Large multisensors with up to 50 sensors2 now function just like any other sensor! Running Firmware 5.1 on SPIDER simplifies integration as it uses the same data output, APIs, and configuration – with the same remote management capabilities. No extra integration work required. And all this without any licensing costs! Dynamic queue detection is not included in SPIDER Firmware 5.1 – Xovis is developing an alternative queue detection function (more details coming soon)3

 

Easier integration

Integrate Xovis sensors in IPv6 networks and stitch multisensors together even faster and more accurately. And Firmware 5.1 enables live data push filtering – e.g. on PCT1, send passenger counts and door events only, saving bandwidth.

Highest accuracy people counting

Path Stitching is a powerful new tool. It merges lost tracks in a specific zone and timeframe, providing the highest accuracy. Path Stitching handles short track losses e.g. people obstructed by an object for a split second, merging them as if the track had never been lost. 

Reworked fill level monitoring

Blocked Space enables 3D monitoring to discover occupation of defined spaces, e.g. find out if an object is blocking a corridor or if a desk is occupied. 

Advanced maintenance

Automatically download and schedule firmware updates at a time convenient to you. Staff are no longer required to maintain the system during inconvenient working hours.

 1 Historical data via RestAPI/WebUI and latency optimization are scheduled for a next firmware release. 

 2 More than 50 sensors possible with upcoming firmware versions.

 3 For customers using dynamic queue detection, we ask for a little patience before migrating your SPIDER to Firmware 5. Adding sensors running Firmware 5 to a SPIDER running IBEX is not supported. 

Technological improvements for advanced people counting

Firmware 5 replaces all current sensor firmware on PC-series devices. Your implementation of the 3.x & 4.x API will need to be adjusted to work with API v5. A downgrade from 5.x to 3.x/4.x is not possible.

    Firmware 5 has a completely new look that makes it easier to use than ever. What’s even more: It improves the performance and is more flexible, covering all situations.

    • Benefit from a brand new and fast web-based user interface (UI) 
    • The new configuration wizard allows you to flexibly configure your Xovis sensors, even for advanced use cases, such as assigning elements and logic to scenes
    • Store more data on the device thanks to improved storage management: up to 3 years of storage for a regular line count logic (1 count line, 2 counter [in/out]) and a minimum 1 hour cache, ensuring continuous streaming of live data (events and coordinates at a 0.25 second interval)

    • Reworked fill level monitoring "Blocked space" allows you to monitor the 3D fill level in a defined zone, and trigger events

    Maintenance of data pushes becomes easier since the content controls are now independent of the configuration of connections. Modify either of them independently and choose from a wide variety of options such as selective content or MQTT connection options.  

    • Improved data output to your system endpoints: The data push architecture separates the in-depth customization of the data payload from many connection options
    • Push only customer-relevant data, live or aggregated, thus reducing data traffic and processing (filtered event push), e.g. with PCT1, transfer passenger counts and door events only
    • Get all the data delivered to your custom schedule or be selective and choose only the events and objects you need, thus saving bandwidth and/or cloud processing expenses

    • Remote connections are allowed only over encrypted TLS connections
