Firmware 5 for Xovis sensors

The new Firmware 5 lays the foundation for the future Xovis experience: It simplifies integration into your solutions, helps you save time and money, and provides an intuitive, error-proof workflow adaptable to a wide variety of use cases.

Xovis sensors running with Firmware 5 feature data output with extensive customization options, an API-driven configuration, and a redesigned WebUI. Furthermore, the new data push architecture prepares the PC-series sensors for use in cloud-based environments. 

Xovis Sensor Firmware 5.3: Ready to Launch on January 9, 2023

Xovis’ sensor firmware continues to evolve, and now includes new features and improvements that will make integrators’ businesses even more successful. Benefit from new features and improvements in the new Firmware 5.31

Progress is the name of the game in the industries where our partners work, and the advanced features incorporated in Firmware 5.3 represent a significant step forward. Migration of the AI extension license bundle means a downgrade from Firmware 5.3 to Firmware 5.2 and earlier versions are not supported. As of firmware 5.3, licenses must be purchased in the HUB license manager.

Bundled AI Extensions

More use cases, same price. That’s what bundled AI extensions mean for our partners. People attribute licenses, such as gender statistics, view direction, face mask detection, and staff exclusion, are now all covered by the same single-priced license bundle. For our PCT sensor, specifically designed for the transportation sector, the Object Detection AI extension, part of the Object Detection License Bundle, can detect bicycles, prams/strollers, and wheelchairs.  

High Accuracy for High Complexity

With Firmware 5.3 you can realize real-time applications with a latency of less than one second on both single and multisensors. Connect up to 100 sensors in a powerful multisensor for very large area tracking using SPIDER2. Enhance your tracking by creating a digital twin for your space by stitching multisensors across floor plans. 


Faster Setup, Easier Integration

Firmware 5.3 reduces setup time and makes integration even easier by: 

Improving multisensor handling in UI 
Defining zero coordinate system onboard multisensor 
Cropping the sensor field of view, e.g. in high installations 
Connecting with IoT world though MQTT data push to Azure IoT hub  
Enhancing interoperability, including support for ITxPT version 2.0.1 on PCT sensors 

Improving the quality of measurement

Need to know when a sensor was not counting? With robust data push capabilities, part of the advanced maintenance features in Firmware 5.3, you can quickly identify if a particular sensor was not capturing data points and for how long, for example when it was turned off. Improving the quality of measurement is a goal of many partners and their customers. Firmware 5.3 just made it that much easier. 


 1 A downgrade from 5.3 to 5.2 or 3.x/4.x is not possible.

 2 Dynamic queue detection is not included in SPIDER Firmware 5.3. Details are forthcoming about an alternative queue detection function Xovis is developing. For customers using dynamic queue detection, we kindly request that SPIDER migration be postponed temporarily, as adding sensors running Firmware 5 to a SPIDER running IBEX is not supported.  

Technological improvements for advanced people counting

Firmware 5 replaces all current sensor firmware on PC-series devices. Your implementation of the 3.x & 4.x API will need to be adjusted to work with API v5. A downgrade from 5.x to 3.x/4.x is not possible.

    Better handling, improved user experience, and advanced data retention

    Firmware 5 has a completely new look that makes it easier to use than ever. What’s even more: It improves performance and is more flexible, covering all situations.

    • Benefit from a brand new and fast web-based user interface (UI) and a lag time of less than one second on a single sensor and multisensors  
    • The new configuration wizard allows you to flexibly configure your Xovis sensors, even for advanced use cases, such as assigning elements and logic to scenes
    • Store more data on the device thanks to improved storage management: up to 3 years of storage for a regular line count logic (1 count line, 2 counter [in/out]) and a minimum 1-hour cache, ensuring continuous streaming of live data (events and coordinates at a 0.25-second interval) 
    • Path Stitching is a powerful new tool. It merges lost tracks in a specific zone and timeframe, providing the highest accuracy
    • Reworked fill level monitoring "Blocked space" allows you to monitor the 3D fill level in a defined zone, and trigger events

    Applying adjustments to the whole sensor base during in-house pre-configuration or in the field just got a lot easier, as the entire sensor configuration is now API-driven. With the API specification coupled to the major version firmware, you can reliably build and maintain your system integration – all future-proof. 

    • Integrate Xovis sensors into IPv6 networks 
    • Set up and configure new installations faster by stitching together multisensors directly on-device 
    • Make integrations easier with the new coordinate system in meters/feet for single- and multisensors 
    • Maintain your existing installations with improved upgrade management (upload now – upgrade later) and advanced logging to win more insights
    • Schedule updates at a time convenient to you. Staff are no longer required to maintain the system during inconvenient working hours
    • Accelerate installation and configuration by stitching multi-sensors together directly on the device. Quickly verify sensor setup and tracking quality with the help of visualization maps (heat and height map, historical count data, and start-stop-point visualization) embedded in the device.
    • Realize real-time applications with a lag time of less than 1 second per single sensor and under 1.5 seconds for multi-sensors

    Maintenance of data pushes becomes easier since the content controls are now independent of the configuration of connections. Modify either of them independently and choose from a wide variety of options such as selective content or MQTT connection options.  

    • Improved data output to your system endpoints: The data push architecture separates the in-depth customization of the data payload from many connection options
    • Push only customer-relevant data, live or aggregated, thus reducing data traffic and processing (filtered event push), e.g. with PCT1, transfer passenger counts and door events only
    • Get all the data delivered to your custom schedule or be selective and choose only the events and objects you need, thus saving bandwidth and/or cloud processing expenses

    Reworked, advanced security concept bringing your connection security to the next level

    Our new security concept meets today's and tomorrow's security requirements and makes sure all settings are correct.

    • API needs authentication 
    • Remote connections are allowed only over encrypted TLS connections 
    • Secure boot chain and encrypted settings ensure untampered TLS certificates and other cryptographic keys 
    • On the Web UI, Firmware 5 automatically removes all traces of people within sensor range, an added feature to ensure compliance with privacy rules. The removal is automatic for multisensors, and single sensors operating with privacy level 1.
