Staff Exclusion

Sensors count all people, detect the Staff Exclusion pattern and thus clearly identify employees and exclude them from the counts

When running a business of any kind, one of the most necessary bits of basic information is the number of customers/visitors. But in practice numbers are easily distorted when staff are also counted. Inaccurate systems or manual counting can be a source of error.

  • So far collected data included all people counts, but the number of employees could not be excluded
  • Unfiltered data fed into an analytics tool leads to obscure results. The conclusions drawn are based mostly on assumptions rather than facts
  • Activities are planned by guesswork, using additional expensive systems or inaccurate manual methods to exclude staff from customer/visitor counts

The Xovis all-in-one solution

Make staff visible to your Xovis sensors. Benefit from all existing functions and add value simply by installing the Staff Exclusion plugin.

  • Equip staff with specially designed tags, all with the same standardized Xovis pattern
  • Along with the existing Xovis data protection concept, staff privacy is taken into account. The pattern is uniform – single members of staff cannot be identified
  • Sensors count all people, detect the pattern and thus clearly identify employees and exclude them from the counts
  • AI firmware has been trained to visually detect the Xovis Staff Exclusion pattern. When the plugin is activated, the pattern is detected by the sensors and staff are excluded
  • Staff are visualized live in the WebUI for easy verification
  • Data provides the total counts of customers/visitors with staff counts excluded
  • No additional system or device required. AI-powered Xovis sensors, running an AI-based people counting algorithm, provide an embedded solution. Everything is computed on the sensor, with no need for external processing power

Technical Data

An AI-enabled sensor running firmware version 4.2.0 (and later versions) is required for the Staff Exclusion plugin. The AI firmware runs on the following sensor models:

AI-powered by default AI-powered by free firmware upgrade
  • PC2S Standard
  • PC2S – L
  • PC2S – UL
  • PC2R Standard
  • PC2R – L
  • PC2R – UL
Sensor Type PC2S / PC2R Standard PC2S / PC2R - L PC2S / PC2R - UL
Mounting Height Range [m] 3.0 – 3.5 2.5 – 3.25 2.4 – 3.25
Mounting Height Range [ft] 9.8 – 11.4 8.2 – 10.6 7.8 – 10.6

  • Activate the license on each sensor by adding the ID “PISTE” according to the AI Functions Quick Guide and the PC-Series User Manual
  • Use the free 30-day evaluation to test the plugin
  • Purchase an unlimited license code or use a recurring license through the Xovis Cloud

  • Staff are excluded in line count data
  • Object stream shows whether a track should be counted (customer) or not (staff)
  • WebUI visualization depending on privacy level

  • Very low or high mounting heights (see height table) make the pattern invisible to the sensor
  • Unfavorable lighting (too dark or too bright) also limits pattern readability and accuracy
  • Thermally challenging setups, such as direct sunlight on the sensor, direct mounting on isolating materials such as plaster ceilings etc., can lead to a throttled-down operation mode
  • Potentionally reduced performance when combined with the Gender Statistics plugin in very crowded settings
  • Xovis SPIDER processing unit recommended for larger Multisensor setups (>9 devices) and for all settings more complex than a wide Multisensor counting line
