Bringing Swiss Excellence to the World
In the Xovis success story, the export department started with initial customer inquiries and has grown organically out of the needs of our expanding customer portfolio. Qualified and committed employees are crucial and form an essential part of the success of a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) with global activities and ambitions.
Xovis currently has around 140 employees, most working in our headquarters and production center in Zollikofen, Switzerland. That number may seem small, but don't let it mislead you: Our sensors are exported to and operating on every populated continent, more than 77 countries worldwide.
An operational portfolio like that does not happen overnight, and it does not happen at all without the support of great internal and external teams.
Swiss Excellence – exporting worldwide
I was reflecting on Xovis’ journey to its current position last week at the International Trade Forum 2024 in Zurich, where the company was awarded the Export Award 2024 from Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE).
It's always great to have your efforts recognized, and we were naturally thrilled to receive such a prestigious award. At the same time, I felt an immense amount of gratitude to S-GE, for supporting me in the early days as a start-up in ExportHelp and then supporting Xovis as a growing SME with export advice and the continuous support of their experts in Swiss Business Hubs.
As many know, the cross-border movement of goods in international business can be a challenge for a Swiss company. S-GE offers a broad and deep range of services that Swiss companies need to expand successfully. This specialized expertise can make a significant difference, especially for SMEs.
The questions posed to the group are not academic in nature but have a direct impact on how Xovis can solve the needs and requirements of new customers in new markets. It is advice that is crucial to developing strong partnerships with companies from Canada to Mexico, from Colombia to Chile, from Dubai to India to Australia and from Norway to China and Japan.
Over the years we have developed the in-house expertise to deal with most export issues, but still revert to S-GE when we encounter complex facts. The experience of our internal team supports our solid reputation for short lead times and keeping partners around the world supplied.
S-GE has played an important role in ensuring our sensors can be exported from our Swiss production facility to customers all over the world. And when you are smallish company with big ambitions, that type of support is itself prizeworthy.
Supporting global partners with Swiss precision and global vision
Xovis works with different business models for our different customer types, including end customers, distribution partners and integration partners, among others. That can get complex, especially since we work in multiple regulated and unregulated industries like airports, retail, building management and public transportation.
In most countries, Xovis does not have its own distribution network, which means we need to solve issues relating to import regulations such as customs, taxes, product regulations, etc. for our partners.
Xovis, as a Swiss company, has now built a solid foundation, supported by dedicated and agile employees who have been trained and certified as Foreign Trade Specialists and are ready to respond to the diverse needs of customers. This is an incredibly valuable service for our partners, as they are largely relieved of these complex and time-consuming issues.
Our passion is to support every target group that wants to achieve their goals with Xovis sensors and sensor-based solutions. In doing so, we keep export barriers low, empower our customers with information and offer both customized import and export solutions.
