Transit agencies across the United States and Canada are being asked to do more with every service hour and capital dollar. From redesigning networks to improving passenger experiences and meeting reporting requirements, agencies need access to accurate operational data that supports confident decision-making.

At the APTA TRANSform Conference & Expo 2026, Xovis will showcase its new APF sensor, next-generation automatic passenger counting (APC) tech engineered to deliver advanced passenger intelligence. The APF moves beyond passenger counting by opening new possibilities in privacy-compliant journey tracking thanks to the new on-sensor Origin-Destination Insights feature.

As agencies work to better match service levels with demand, understanding where, when, and how passengers travel has become increasingly important. Beyond passenger counts alone, transit leaders are seeking deeper visibility into rider journeys to support route planning, capacity management, network optimization, and future mobility initiatives.

The APF sensor addresses these evolving needs by combining high-accuracy passenger counting with onboard edge AI processing. By performing analytics directly on the device, the sensor reduces infrastructure requirements, simplifies deployment, and enables agencies to access valuable passenger movement insights while maintaining strong privacy protections.

"Public transportation organizations are looking for data that can drive measurable improvements across their operations," said Christian Studer, CEO of Xovis. "Whether the goal is improving service delivery, optimizing resources, or planning for future growth, agencies need insights they can trust. The APF sensor was developed to make advanced passenger analytics more accessible, scalable, and practical for everyday transit operations."

Trusted by transit agencies worldwide, Xovis APC technology delivers accurate, verifiable, privacy-focused passenger data across bus, rail, light rail, and other public transportation environments. At APTA TRANSform 2026, attendees will learn how agencies are leveraging Xovis solutions to support performance management, enhance operational efficiency, and build more responsive transit networks.
